NOUN Students Are Agitating for NYSC Mobilization

The vice Chancellor prof Abdalla Adamu , NOUN staff ,management, students leader and stakeholder , Distinguished Members of the Press, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppresor, it must be demanded by the oppressed Martin Luther King, jnr

This is call to the masses.  A call for justice. A call for our voice to be heard. A call for implementation of the national open university of Nigeria Act.
This is a call to demand our rights. A call to stand for justice and fairness. A call to consolidate our future, our generation and our people.

It is no more a news that the bill that allow National Open University of Nigeria students to participate in the ONE year NYSC scheme and also our law graduates to be admitted into Nigeria Law school has been signed since Dec 04 2018 more than 1 and half year ago. But it is so sadden that ever since this acts has been signed into law Nothing has been done to implement the Acts,  while Nigerian Constitutions make a provision that any law signed by the president must be implemented latest 6 months.

The National Open University of Nigeria is a Federal Open and Distance Learning Institution Accredited by NUC. The first of its kind in the West Africa sub-region. It is Nigeria's largest tertiary institution in terms of students population.

We pay heavily to afford National Open University terms and conditions as directed by NUC but we are deprive of our rights like other Accredited Tertiary  Institutions.

I have seen a Nigeria graduate from National Open University of Benin Republic serving in Nigeria,  even with International treatment.

I have also seen a Graduate of National Open University of Nigeria that was denied of an employment due to lack of NYSC discharge certificate.

1. We pledge to the Federal Government or order the Implementation of NOUN acts, which was signed into law on Dec 04 2018 to allow Graduates of National Open University of Nigeria to participate in the scheme and be admitted into Nigeria Law school respectively.

2. National Open University of Nigeria 2020 Graduates must be mobilized together with the 2020 Batch A.

3. We give federal government Seven (7) working days ultimatum to find solution to this.

Failure to Comply with this, we shall all match as the largest university in Nigeria in all the 36 States and make it known to the world that we have been treated like a third class citizens by our government and all the activities of the government will be disrupted through social media and peaceful solidarity protest.

We are not for war but for peace.

An injustice to one is an injustice to all.

1. We are aware that NYSC Batch A time table is out and NOUN graduates must be mobilized alongside too.

2.  Dignitaries or personnel may plead for us to be patient and wait for Directive of the management. We know this tactics too well, we will never fail for this.

Enough is Enough
