All the video conferencing session will be recorded and made available on the NOUN Learning Space for review and the benefit of those that could not join the sessions.

2.      Discussion Forums: An online discussion forum is a learning tool that gives students a place to express their opinion and understanding regarding the topic outlined for discussion. Students will be able to challenge one another to think deep on the course. The online facilitator will guide the process.

3.      Chat Sessions with other students in the course

Students may participate in the activities using internet-enabled smart devices i.e. smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops. Throughout the exercise, students are expected to exhibit basic online etiquette

NUC approves 6 programmes for NOUN

ABUJA–THE National Universities Commission,NUC,has given full accreditation to six academic programmes at the National Open University of Nigeria,NOUN. The programmes are Accounting;Banking and Finance;Business Administration;Marketing;Public Administration and Hotel and Catering Management.

“The implication of this status is that NOUN now has the mandate to run these programmes for five years,” NOUN said in a statement, Monday, through its Director, Media and Publicity,Ibrahim Sheme. “The cheering news was conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, in a letter dated 19th March, 2020 and signed by Maryam Sali, the NUC Director of Accreditation, on behalf of the Executive Secretary,” the statement explained. It read further: “The NUC has the statutory mandate to accredit academic programmes in all Nigerian universities. “Certificates issued to students admitted into unaccredited programmes are not recognised. “The latest approval given to NOUN was sequel to the result of an NUC-organised accreditation visitation to the university in Abuja in October/November 2019. “The result of the visitation showed an impressive score for each of the six programmes, ranging from 78.7 percent to 97.4 percent. “The VC, Professor Adamu, expressed delight with the approval, saying this shows the readiness of NOUN to fulfill its obligations as a centre of excellence in the Open and Distant Learning (ODL) mode of education.”

615 Prisoners Studying Free In NOUN ― Says NOUN VC

Prof. Abdalla Adamu, the Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University in Nigeria (NOUN) says the institution has admitted a total of 615 prisoners.

Adamu made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He said that all the inmates were studying free as NOUN was responsible for payment of their fees up to the Ph.D. level.

The professor of science education said that it had been his joy to encourage prisoners to acquire education and be useful in re-integration into society.

Adamu added that he was happy seeing people who were incarcerated and had no hope, with some of them on death row and life sentence, studying.

The vice-chancellor told NAN that the inmates had a preference for studying Peace and Conflict Resolution as their major courses.

Adamu said that NOUN, established in 2002, also encouraged people living with disabilities to enroll in it.

“We don’t want a situation where people with so-called learning disabilities are separated from society.

“If anybody with a learning disability wishes to enroll in NOUN, he is welcome.

“We do not have braille books but we have other items of technologies; even phones now have enhancement technologies that they can use but they have not been able to explore them.

“We are living in an inclusive world, we want these people to be part of the society because they live in the society; so, we integrate them as much as we can,’’ he said.

The vice-chancellor noted that the Federal Government had been supporting the institution, but said that NOUN needed more funds to do better.
